Breast Cancer Risk & Environmental Hormones

Both plasticizers and pesticides in the environment are risk factors for breast cancer. Doctors from Taiwan urge the general public not to use plastic bags to carry food in hot temperature so as to reduce the risk of contracting breast cancer.

 

Academia Sinica vice president Chen Chien-Jen said that having excessive amounts of plasticizers in one’s body potentially destroys the body’s hormonal balance, causing breast cells to become abnormal and cancerous, and ultimately result in gene transformation.

 

Phthalate in Consumer Products

Phthalate is a common environmental pollutant which disturbs the endocrine system. Phthalate is primarily used as plasticizers of polyvinyl chloride and as additives in consumer products. Some phthalates can be absorbed through the skin (Janjua et al. 2007)or being ingested, because phthalates potentially transmit from wrappers and containers to foods (Wormuth et al. 2006). Phthalates are endocrine disruptors with estrogenic effects. Prenatal exposure of phthalate may increase the risk of contracting breast cancer.

 

Zhang Yaoren, deputy director of the Tzu Chi Hospital in Taipei, advocates that as people put hot food in plastic bags, it will release plasticizers. Beyond that, plastic containers should not be exposed to sun exposure,  high temperature, or ultraviolet light.

 

Plasticizers and Breast Cancer Risk

Researchers found that overexposure to plasticizers nearly doubles the risk of contracting breast cancer . For those with poor metabolisms, the risk rises to 3.4 times high. The research was conducted over more than 20 years with extensive samples. Thus, the report is totally convincing.

 

PET Plastic Products 

Repetitive usage of PET plastic bottles is risky to our health. It’s worth noting that some plastic containers will release environmental hormones even at low temperatures. Many disposable cups are made from PS plastics. Plastics may become unsafe if they are not resistant to high temperatures. Many containers may not deform under high heat, but they are not absolutely safe. As to thermos, if the inner layer is coated with plastic, it’s not quite safe for the users.

 

Academia Sinica vice president Chen Chien-Jen asserts that plasticizers are being present in things such as toys, cables and shower curtains. In normal situations, the metabolic material is released via the kidneys in 24 to 48 hours. He suggested sufficient water intake and exercise help lower the risk of breast cancer.

 

Breast Cancer: High Cure Rate

In Taiwan, the 10-year survival rate for the patients of the first-stage breast cancer is around 80% high.  As to zero-stage breast cancer treatment, the 10-year survival rate is close to 100%.

#4. Weight control and regular exercise: Dr. Jiang Kunjun argues that obesity may stimulate estrogen to accelerate breast cancer proliferation.

Breast Cancer May Be Asymptomatic

For younger women, they tend to have a larger tumor. In clinical cases, breast cancer cells are more malignant for young women .Young women with breast cancer are more likely to suffer from poor prognosis with a relatively higher mortality rate.

 

For women with breast cancer, they are recommended to get pregnant 2 to 3 years after treatment and may consider preserving ovum and embryos before treatment.

 

# Breast lumps do not amount to cancer

Dr. Liu Zongyu reminded people that breast lumps are not a typical signal of breast cancer. He argues that up to 90% of lumps may be a cyst or fibroadenoma, which is usually benign. If you have concerns in your mind, please go to the doctor and check whether it is cancerous.

Preoperative Adjuvant Therapy

Recent studies have found that patients with triple-negative breast cancer and HER2 overexpression have a relatively high chance to preserve the completeness of breast through “preoperative adjuvant therapy.
